Biography

Josh Mcloud earned his Master’s in Botany, concentration on molecular genetics, at Oklahoma State University where he created a plant mutant line that partially restored meiotic mutants. His merit in this lab experiment led to his awarded National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship that he used to transition into field experiments. His PHD in biology, concentrated on molecular detection of dimorphic fungi, at the University of Tulsa where he investigated the seasonality and association of airborne fungi to meteorological variables; these fungi include allergens, opportunistic pathogens, and plant pathogens. His discoveries inform allergist and plant pathology of the seasonal exposure and illuminate the biodiversity of these fungal community. His interest in biodiversity drew him to SEA-Phage research and has allowed him to use experiential learning to mentor numerous undergraduates in the ways of science. Now at Baylor, Dr. McLoud will use the wealth of knowledge to continue to mentor undergraduate students.
